The real place to find zoo news is in the ZooChat gallery. The number of online conversations on the photos has begun to exceed the dialogue on many of the threads, and anyone who does not browse through the gallery is missing out on the bulk of the activity on this site. Often in a single day there will only be 20 or more threads that have been started in the new postings section, but in comparison there are between 100-200 photos uploaded every single day, and an endless stream of comments attached to them. Sometimes there are up to 500 photos added in a 24-hour period! The interesting thing is that there is often far more zoo information, and even more intriguing debates, on the almost 50,000 photos in comparison to the written threads. Zoo fans all over the world make comments on the pros and cons of specific exhibits, and there are now over 71,000 comments just on the photos.
I still have close to 500 photos to upload from my recent trip to Colombia - I'm still catching up on work stuff at the moment so won't have time to post them just yet, but as soon as I so I'll see if I can help boost that photo count.
And I still have over 600 photos that I took at the San Diego Zoo that I will be uploading in the next couple of weeks. I also have at least 100 photos from the Santa Barbara Zoo.
In the North America section some fairly major zoos that have a limited supply of photos are... List of 16: 1- Cheyenne Mountain Zoo - 7 photos 2- Cleveland Zoo - 37 3- Denver Zoo - 55 (top 15 ranked zoo?) 4- Franklin Park Zoo - 43 5- Honolulu Zoo - 32 6- Louisville Zoo - 25 7- New England Aquarium - 19 8- New York Aquarium - 8 9- North Carolina Zoo - 20 (top 15 ranked zoo?) 10-Oakland Zoo - 7 11-Rio Grande Zoo - 9 12-San Antonio Zoo - 39 13-Sedgwick County Zoo - 11 (top 15 ranked zoo?) 14-Shedd Aquarium - 36 (top 3 aquarium?) 15-Tennesse Aquarium - 20 (top 5 aquarium?) 16-The Wilds - 23
I also have a long list of zoo requests to add to the system - once I get caught up with my other work I'll start adding them in. I would expect we will pass 700 zoos by the time I'm done.
@tigertiger: it can be time consuming, and I am always off doing different things in my home while photos are being uploaded. My computer can upload 10 photos at a time, and it takes about 15 minutes in total for them to go through. That includes typing up brief captions, labelling them, etc, and I can upload perhaps 35-40 an hour.
If you are familiar with FTP and want a faster way to upload photos, send me an email or PM - I can set up access for you to transfer files in bulk to the servers. Requires some technical knowledge though, so only for the tech savvy people.
