    Hi all,

Me and @Jaguar_X have been working tirelessly for the last couple of months working on a list of all Captive species within South Africa, It includes Captive situations, Semi-captive, exotics kept on Hunting Ranches and lastly, animals in the private pet trade.

Since we are only human mistakes are expected, if you happen to spot any do let me know!
With that said the fish list is still a working progress but have added it for those of you that are interested.

Without further adieu, here it is!

That is a very impressive undertaking.

OUT OF INTEREST: Our news threads from South African zoos are almost devoid of any recent news items. Perhaps, a nice investment and surely of interest to other Zoochat followers.

This will be very useful for my visit to South Africa in March-April! As a side note, it appears the Mitchell Park Zoo has held Natal Red Duiker in the recent past. Is this no longer the case? also, uShaka Marine World should still have a couple Cape Fur Seals.

Yes yes, Mitchell Park Zoo no longer keeps red duiker but Johannesburg and Pretoria do, And Fur Seals are the preferred pinniped of choice in South Africa, uShaka has kept Crab-eating seals in the past but no longer do.

Out of interest, will you only be visiting the East Coast of the country?

I'll be flying in and out of Johannesburg, but I won't spend much time there. I will mostly be in Kwazulu-Natal, with a couple of days in Cape Town as well. I hope to get to three or four zoos while I'm there, but we'll see how things play out :).

I will definitely be visiting the Mitchell Park Zoo and uShaka Marie World, with hopefully time for the Two Oceans Aquarium and World of Birds Wildlife Sanctuary and Monkey Park. Joburg could possibly be worked in, but that is highly unlikely.

Great choices! Mitchell Park Zoo is a lovely small little Zoo with a rich History you'd definitely find some rarities there, It's has not been fully added to the sheet yet but I'll add that later today!

uShaka is your typical SeaWorld esc Marine Park, Seal show, Dolphin show etc. etc.
It also has a reptile room a walk away form the main park called `uShaka Dangerous Creatures`

You mentioned Joburg is unlikely but me and many other South African Zoo goers I know, Can all agree that it is the best in South Africa and possible Africa in it's entirety.
If you have the slightest slip of time I would highly recommend Joburg Zoo.
Other then that it has one of the very few pure African leopards in captivity as well as the only WAZA zoo with Chacma baboons.

I did notice that the zebras and tapir was not listed with the rhinos.

I do really want to visit Joburg, but seeing as my family has everything already booked, it’s looking like I won’t have any time to visit It, unfortunately :(.
