A masterplan for the Tierpark has been released by zoo authorities.

Splitting the zoo into geographical zones

In theoryry the zoo is already split into geographic zones, of course :) though anyone following my ongoing discussion of my 2015 trip to Bavaria will have got the (correct) impression that a lot of the zoo is a bit dishevelled and in need of some love - so the intention to renovate much of the zoo is good news!

Apologies for bumping this dead thread but ever since I arrived at Munich I felt a bit invested towards the master plan of what is currently my local zoo.

I visited Hellabrunn last December and while I wasn’t able to complete my visit, I did see a lot of work going on such as the renovation of the Dschunglewelt and the antarctic penguins. the newer (giraffes, lions, farm area) and renovated enclosures (primate house and elephant house let me know if I missed anything) are easy to tell from the ones that are waiting renovations (especially the rhinoceros house, it is hands down awful). The master plan is also interesting because for the most part it seems to consist of switching most species to other enclosures as well as adding new species to said enclosures rather than building something completely new.

I do have a question to those who are familiar with Hellabrunn. Are the proposed okapi and pygmy hippopotamus (edit and squirrel monkey) enclosures pre-existing enclosures or will they be completely new?

Does anybody know if I can view the masterplan online somewhere? That link no longer works.

@Cat-Man I found this when I looked up “Hellabrunn masterplan pdf”. The map is a bit grainy though. A clearer version of the map can be found in Les Zoos Dans Le Monde.
