Having just checked to see how the land lies for a visit later on in the year, it seems Dubai Safari hasn't in fact reopened. They last tweeted on 10th October promising an opening date 'soon', and the website is just a holding page. Strange situation indeed. It'll probably open the week after I get back! Has anybody heard anything by any chance?
Its seems that they have taken it back to the drawing board, and are still non-committal about an opening date. I wonder if it will be open if/when I make another visit to Dubai, whenever that may be! Knowing the UAE, I'm sure that when it is eventually established - and I'm sure it will be - it will be worth experiencing. I suspect the Dubai Expo may force progress.
This report should worry the organizers of Expo2020! If the Safari couldn't control its visitors how can Expo2020 hope to control their far greater and more diverse crowds?
Dubai Safari, after opening in 2018 and closing down only 5 months later, will reopen next month. The zoo has been extensively renovated and after two years of being closed the main attraction will be the addition of African Elephants (1.3). The link below contains an article and at least 15 photos: Dubai Safari set to reopen next month after two-year closure
Its a bit of saga this one. They have still avoided quoting an opening date in that article, but the website's up and running and they are accepting bookings from 5th October. Hopefully it stays the course this time, and if I'm ever back there, I'll take a look.
Saw this on another forum, gives a good overview of the zoo now open: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CGJ2flrHUKf/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
I can vouch for it he talks just of kangaroos and not so much that they are Asian. He points out that it is the way the zoo has been laid out in sections and the kangaroos ended up in this part of the Dubai Safari Zoo. (Take it from someone knowing a wee bit more about spoken and written Arabic).
