i noticed there wasn't any news threads on the zoo and scouting their website found a small but interesting news peice:

    Dartmoor Zoo

i had no idea a lynx had moved from newquay, does this leave just the one there? i thought (from photos in the gallery) the lynx enclosure was already built, is this not the case or are they just putting the finishing touches to things?

Yes, it is the old Puma cage, just without the roof.

cool, i got the impression from the rticle it was being developed...perhaps the indoor areas? i think the lynx(s) at newquay were mother and son (may have read ages ago on zoochat) so does this mean the son is left?

I recall that I saw Ben's Zoo on BBC2 last year, two lynxes were in quarantine. What happened to them now?

There was one Lynx in quarantine, she's probably still there.

I've just been told that there was an announcement on tonight's local news that the story of Ben Mee's life is going to be made into a Hollywood film! I have no more details.

 What? Who knows, if that goes ahead maybe Dartmoor will become more popular than biggies such as London and Chester.

Bongo mentioned this in the Zoo and Wildlife Documentaries forum yesterday. Sounds interesting.

Well there was a escaped jaguar and wolf, that would probably be dramatised for purposes of the movie. Bets on Bruce Willis as Ben Mee...

I know somethings will be dramatised, but the story is very heart warming and this should be the theme of the movie.

3 - porcupines have left the park to go to porfell wildlife park, cornwall. has anyone ever heard of this collection before
4 - in return dartmoor with be collecting wallabies form porfell, to b kept with their pygmy goats in a walkthrough enclosure.
5 - there is a planned new monkey enclosure (including trees) for the vervet monkeys.

I was sure Dartmoor had a greater flamingo, unless the two there were one greater and one chilean and then the greater died?

Porfell is an interesting collection, they have caracals, a genet, zebra, ocelot, lemurs and callitrichids.

Dartmoor used to have one greater and one Chilean flamingo. I guess the Chili was the one that survived, so now he/she's off to Paignton.

The lynx that was in quarantine, Kiruna, was moved into the new enclosure with the male lynx from Newquay Zoo in January.
