This Aquarium in Miura was founded by Keihin Electric Express Railway on April 27,1968. In the 1970s, the number of visitors was around 800.000. Ten years after the opening a Dolphin Hall was completed and the aquarium bought 1,1 Bottlenosed Dolphins from the Taijin Area. In 1985 they received their first rockhopper penguins and in the next years there will be numerous breeding successes. In early 2021, the aquarium announces that it will close. This decision was certainly made for several reasons, including the outdated facilities, the sharp decline in visitor numbers and the restrictions imposed during the corona pandemic.
