    She might have given birth to 14 calves, but raised them??????? Where are they now?
    If that's so, then Australian zoos would be knee-deep in hippos - they live to about 40 or 50 years.

    According to ISIS the only other hippos in Australia are 2 bulls and 3 cows at Dubbo (which originated from Taronga) and a bull and 4 cows at Werribee, which originated from Melbourne (although aren't there some in Cairns?)

    Rix's history of the Adelaide zoo, which admittedly was published way back in 1978, stated that up to that time Suzie had given birth to 3 calves and all had died. I might contact Adelaide zoo to see if we can find out more.

    Yes, 14 calves raised did sound a dodgy to me but I just wanted to repeat what the woman said. Unless they were all sent overseas there is no currently known evidence of them.
