So I have finally got my lion record to the point where I am happy to share it.

This is basically a list of the African Lions that live/have lived at Auckland Zoo and the descendants from those individuals.

It starts with the 1998 pride including Tombo, Tonyi, Kura and Sheeka.

If you notice any mistakes or if you have anything to add please let me know and I will sort it out.

There's a lot of lions that "carries the white lion gene", and some which have not yet bred - how do you know they carry the gene?

Plus it would help if each lion's parents were named.

    :p

Yeah I know many lions carry the gene, I just put it in as Tombo and Tonyi's sister is white so it is more apparent than in other lions who may have no record of carrying the gene. I also am aware that white lions are sometimes 'randomly' born into a litter as often happens in the wild. This list was originally just for my own reference and I thought it was an interesting point, thats the only reason it is on there at all. Also most of the lions do have their parents noted in the 'comments' part. Some I havnt put in because they were originals and their parents werent at Auckland (Kura, Sheeka etc) but I anyone can give me the info on the missing parents that'd be great and I will add it.

And thanks Hix, I will add that. :)

But just because a sister is white does not necessarily mean that they carry the gene. Unless one of the parents was white, then they might not carry the gene. you won't know until you breed them with a white or a known het.

the parents of the three lions were a white female called Vinkel and a tawny male called Merlin, at Philadelphia Zoo in 1996. Philadelphia breeds a lot of white lions I think, and probably most of the cubs they breed overall carry white genes (not all their females were white).

Thats write Clidonias they imported a group from south africa 1 tawny male 1 tawny female and 2 white females so really Tombo and Tonyi are very valuble animals being that there mother is a white lion from south africa

Also Tygo how did you find Sheecas full birthdate?

    Hi there,

If you are still wanting Laz and Ngala's birthdates, I can try and ask someone next time I'm in the lunchroom if you like?

I got to meet Ngala, Kura, Sheeka and Amira yesterday...it was absolutely wonderful. I even got Kura to bark at me! Got it on video too :)

I would have loved to feed them! That's awesome :) I'm just so blown away by their size and beauty. I'll ask around this weekend.
