The zoo has added a Kaman’s face painting stand next to Komodo Kingdom entrance. Akron Zoo | Kaman's Art: Jobs
Ladies and gentlemen, it appears that the time we have been waiting for at least around a year is finally coming. The animal portion of Farmland at the Akron Zoo is now closed. The sheep and pygmy goats are now in Wild Prairie and the larger goats are behind the scenes. This is wonderful news. Pride of Africa construction could begin soon and an official announcement cannot be far behind. Fingers crossed.
I was at the Akron Zoo yesterday. Highlights include: Jaguar, Hyacinth Macaw and Sun Bear were not out. Farmland was empty. I could not find any Barn Owls, so they may be gone.
Jaguar was out today. The Temminck’s tragopans just moved back to the old Aviary. Hyacinth macaws Tupi and Yama’s exhibit is being prepared for their annual debut. Earplugs have to be given to the neighbors too. They will talk up a storm when they get back on exhibit. Sun bear Scruffy is 33 and is given the choice on whether or not to be out. When you get her age you sleep a lot. She was actually out last Sunday. The barn owls could have been hiding. There is a spot they can hide. The train is remaining open for the summer, so it has no connection to Pride of Africa. Curious Creatures is slowly gaining new animals. Octopus was off exhibit. The new green tree monitor is shy. I assume Boxie the Galapagos tortoise is in quarantine. Animal show started yesterday. It will be Wednesday to Sunday this year. It has been Tuesday to Saturday for years, but I never knew why they did not have Sunday shows.
Curious Creatures opened one year ago on this date. It has been a good update and wonderful addition. The attendance numbers also reflect this too.
The zoo has went back to handing out winter maps. I was wondering if they need to be reprinted. They still have the animal part of Farmland on the new summer map and that is now closed. I have asked about it to see what I find out.
The zoo has launched a second Facebook page called Friends of the Akron Zoo. Friends of the Akron Zoo
The octopus has not been on exhibit the past two times I have been there, so I guess a new octopus is coming. Farmland is slowly being torn down.
It begins. Farmland (minus the train) is now fenced off and demolished. A new temporary path has been installed to bypass the area. A construction trailer is located beside Lehner Family Zoo Gardens. Panzica, the construction company that built CMZ's Rosebrough Tiger Passage, is building Pride of Africa and Wild Asia.

As of yesterday, we are 11 months to the projected opening date of Pride of Africa. Animal-portion of Farmland has been leveled. The big question now is ‘When will the details be finally revealed?’ It feels like this has been too stretched out.
