I not that the Al Ain Zoo Park have recently obtained White Lions from South Africa and are promoting them widely in the regions press. Again there there is implied intent to breed from the 'rare species'. You can read more by reading HERE
I am rather sad that since Dr. Mark Craig leaving the focus of the institution has gone from conservation to attracting "public". I really do not think that the current Masterplan would benefit from introduction of the clap trap white tiger myth. I could get lyrical if they would introduce a female Arabian leopard and talk of a very rare species for breeding purposes ....
I had a comment from Al Ain to say that they had no intention of breeding from the White Lions but were using them to draw attention to the plight of lions everywhere. Like you Kifaru Bwana I would have chosen a different road to take but each to their own. The same attention grabbing excuse is ised by some of the collections which keep white tigers.
