Monarto are the only breeders. Altina's and Perth's are all males bred at Monarto. (Altina has had their males for quite a while now, but they announced plans for importing females a couple of years back, which hasn't happened yet).

Monarto's stock is derived from 4.1 imported from Singapore Zoo in 2007 (they already had an elderly female from Perth's original trio, but she has since died). Interestingly the hyaenas bred at Perth through the 1990s all went to Singapore, so Monarto's imports may be all derived from that line in any case.

I heard on the radio they Altina is in trouble with the NSW office if heritage and environment for picking up road kill Kangaroos. They have been doing this for years in an agreement they have with the local council. They have now been told that it is a $300 fine per native animal for picking up roadkill.

I presume they are feeding their Maned Wolves, African Hunting dogs, Hyena and Lions with the roadkill.

This just goes to show how ridiculous some of our government regulations are and how stupid some of the people who enforce the laws can be. They should be congratulated for picking up roadkill as there is no shortage and it is better than letting Kangaroos rot on the side of the road.

I am not sure if they have been fined or threatened with fineing if they continue

How ridiculous! Save's the zoo having to kill live horses/goats/other animals to feed to the carnivores. Why let it go to waste? Or let it attract foxes or feral dogs and put them at risk of getting run over?

Altina shared a post on Facebook in which a visitor mentioned they were looking forward to seeing the rhinos next year. I would assume that they are importing with Halls Gap who said they were importing as part of a group of three zoos early this year. It would then make sense that the third zoo is Mogo who have also announced rhinos for next year. Is anyone able to confirm that?
