For the new Penguin-enclosure 6 male Humboldt penguins were recieved from the Berg-zoo Halle. This week a further 6 animals ( all females ) will arrive from Wilhelmshafen.
Since last year the Tierpark keeps Woodchuks ( aka Groundhog ) - Marmota monax , and is just 1 of 3 zoos in Europe in which the species is represented. Now the species has been bred at Limbach Oberfrohna for the first time .

At the start of October Amerika Tierpark received 3 Roseate spoonbills (Platalea ajaja) from Cottobus and 5 from Tierpark Hagenbeck, all the spoonbills had passed away earlier this year due to bird flu. The zoo also received 10.000 euro from the Tierparkfördervereins to "buy" new birds that passed away due to bird flu earlier this year. Due to the bird flu all birds in flamingo land (except the flamingos) had to be killed, luckly Amerika Tierpark was able to get birds from other zoos. Several Fulvous whistling-ducks (Dendrocygna bicolor) and Ringed teals (Callonetta leucophrys) arrived from Zoo Leipzig. Four pairs of Scarlet ibises (Eudocimus ruber) came from Naturzoo Rheine. Other duck and ibis species will arrive from Tierpark Cottbus and night herons will arrive from Zoo Neuwied. At the end of October a female Chacoan peccary (Catagonus wagneri) arrived from Zoo Leipzig. In December female Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) Lisa was found dead outside the zoo, she escaped a while back when the fencing of her enclosure was destroyed during a storm In December a pair of Arctic foxes (Alopex lagopus) arrived from Opel Zoo. Last week female Moor macaque (Macaca maura) Corry (white morph) was euthanised due to age related problems, she was around 34 years old. According to the zoo she was born in Zoo Den Haag and arrived at Amerika Tierpark from Hannover Zoo in 1994. Currently the zoo only has 1 male, her son Vitali, the zoo is looking for a different zoo for him. Eventually this enclosure will house the Yellow-breasted capuchins (Sapajus xanthosternos), which already live in the zoo. The zoo recently send a Lesser rhea (Rhea pennata) to zoo Leipzig, in return Amerika Tierpark received a female Lesser rhea from Zoo Leipzig. The rheas at Amerika Tierpark were related to eachother, due to this exchange Amerika Tierpark has received permission to start breeding with this species. On the 14th of April a Patagonian mara (Dolichotis patagonum) was born. Recently a new species arrived at the zoo, namely a Coscoroba swan (Coscoroba coscoroba) from Zoo Basel. Sadly the last female Swift fox (Vulpes velox) in Europe passed away, she was also the last swift fox in Amerika tierpark (and Germany). Oasys Mini Hollywood in Spain is the only holder in Europe with this species. On the 10th of May multiple Arctic foxes (Alopex lagopus) were born. On the 24th of February a Patagonian mara (Dolichotis patagonum) was born. Recently a pair of Chacoan maras (Dolichotis salinicola) arrived from Zoo Praha. Furthermore, 5 East Bolivian Highland yellow-toothed cavys (Galea musteloides boliviensis) arrived from Zoo Plzen. Both are new species for Amerika Tierpark.
