Some news from the Dutch zoo magazine "De Harpij":

    - From Wildlands came 2.0 Impala and nine helmeted guinea fowl.
    - Four southern screamers hatched. Because of the cold, they are in an enclosure behind the scenes.

Recently a male European badger (Meles meles meles) arrived, at the moment he is the only badger in Dierenpark Amersfoort. According to ZTL he came from Wildpark Eekholt (Germany).

I visited the zoo on thursday and noticed a few species are no longer part of the zoo´s collection, it seems. I was missing:

    - the Black and White ruffed lemurs
    - the Golden lion tamarins
    - the Geoffroy's cats.

The first two species' enclosures have been completely removed, the latter enclosure is still there, but all the signage has been removed, and it looked as if it has been boarded off... so it seems these species are gone.

Also, there was a sign saying the last Nutria has died, and the species will no longer be visible in the zoo due to European law.

I am wondering what the zoo will do with the freed up space. I hope the Geoffroy's and Nutria's enclosures might free up some more space for the Chimpansee enclosure. :) I read in a recent newsletter that there's plans to renovate the chimp enclosure in the upcoming years.

Yes the Geoffroy's cats have been gone for a while now. A real shame as it was on of the few highlights of the zoo's collection.

New or renovated chimp enclosure has been a long term plan for some years now. I am not sure it will be soon, but that would be nice.

I wonder what kind of theme they'll go with this time, as the Ancient City and the Realm of the Giants builds were (and still are) insanely creative, and the newer aviaries are also well done.

That’s the first time I have heared Amersfoort Zoo being called “insanely creative”. I even scrolled back to the top of the page to check if this really was the Amersfoort Zoo thread.

They have their moments I guess… dunno about insanely creative o_O

You'd expect them to maybe switch out the male/female to get new bloodlines in?

Indeed, at some point this line will be overrepresented in Europe...
