While looking for something else, I have just found a photo of banded linsang that I took in Frankfurt in 1973. Unfortunately my scanner is out of commission at the moment, but I will try to post it eventually.

Talli, if you're in Arizona then a quick trip to Long Beach California May-November (especially July and August) would most probably yield Blue Whales! I used the following company: Newport Beach | Newport Harbor | Orange County | Whale Watching Cruises off the Southern California Coastline went on 2 trips in the same day and saw Blue Whales and Common Dolphins on both trips!

I've been on a whale watch out of San Diego, but that was for gray whales. We did see a few which was wonderful, but the highlight of the trip was a pod of 2-5000 dolphins. The captain said the biggest he'd ever seen. They were several dolphins deep riding the bow and your head was constantly swiveling back and forth as they leapt out of the water on all sides.
Did see a couple of Minke on a trip out of Iceland.

Every one of those animals is on my Animal Bucket List. The one I posted originally wasn't the whole thing and the list continues to grow. I recently added Siberian Lynx to the list.

Yeah I saw a few thousand dolphins on my trips out of Long Beach. It's really incredible. Were they Common Dolphins as well?

I finally lucked out and saw Minke whales on a trip out of Cape Cod, MA. I had always been waiting to see Minke's ever since they were spotted amongst Humpback Whales on my first whale watch trip when I was 8 (however I only saw Humpbacks!). Then I had an opportunity (however bleak it may have been) to swim with them while snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef (they never showed). Then on the first of two days in Cape Cod in 2010 no Minkes, but at the end of the second day: Minkes!! Literally the final few minutes of the trip is when I got the photos. I remember being a little pissed that we weren't going to wait for the Minke's to surface more before we headed back to shore. Then again I was the only one even paying attention to the Minke's while everyone else salivated over the 20th Humpback whale of the day.

Did you manage any photos of your Minke's?

I know Javan-Rhino at least has gotten his Black Lion Tamarin lifetick and TeaLovingDave his Black-Footed Cat and Brown Hyena lifeticks.

*I have not seen this one in many years but included it because I, for some reason, had it on my list on the first post of this thread despite me seeing a wild juvenile in Arizona years ago.

I never posted in this thread because my bucket list is so long. And these days it only concerns animals in the wild.

But sometime in the next six weeks I expect to cross off Mountain Gorilla, Shoebill, Chimpanzee, Lion, Colobus, turaco, hoopoe and African Skimmer. And - fingers crossed - galago. Maybe even Demidoff's.

    :p

Well you can post how ever long of a list you want, it was nanoboy that made up the whole 5 species rule.

Well good luck to you! That's a list that several of us would like to fill and hopefully you get to see as many of those species as possible!

I hope to cross off Shoebill and Chimpanzee in the next few weeks as well but something tells me it won't be in exactly the same way:p

I think that was the same deal with me with the Sumatran Rhino and probably the Proboscis Monkey as well.

I believe Bronx is working on a new kiwi exhibit. I know you visited the other day so what was the status on the exhibit?

    - As you know the zoo is huge and you cannot visit everything in one occasion. I was unable to make it all the way up the aquatic bird house ad I ended up spending a ton of time at Congo and my favorite exhibit Jungleworld. I will check next time which may not be till september as I am visiting the national zoo next month ( along with 4 different theme parks).

    - Marbled Cat
    - Banded linsang (although I would be more than satisfied with any spotted or African linsangs)
    - Ethiopian wolf
    - Iberian lynx (hopefully Selwo Aventura has them)
    - Saiga
    - Golden snub-nosed monkey
    - Philippine pangolin

I have been lucky enough to see wild proboscis monkeys and bornean orangutans. I have also seen Sumatran rhinos in Lok Kawi and echidnas and platypus in Australian zoos as well as pangolins in Singapore.

For me it's every endemic Abyssinian (Ethiopia and Eritrea) animal. Besides the Ethiopian mountain adder I've never seen an endemic animal from that region which sucks seeing that I'm Ethiopian myself.

    Sadly, no.

Also, most Ethiopian animals are not showcased in zoos because of the export ban. I know that the adders were obtained using illegal methods (fake papers and such) but If a zoo does have blue winged geese that would be amazing! Does anyone know which zoo has this species?

Zootierliste shows a number of European zoos with blue-winged goose; see the link below for details.

Blue-winged Geese have long been established in aviculture, in small numbers. The Bronx may still have them mixed with Geladas and Hyrax.
(I also have a pair at home).
