We've all heard of fire drills, but what about flood drills? My mate who works at Taronga Zoo said that two of Taronga's gorillas (Shinda and Kijivu) who now live at the Prague Zoo participate in bi-annual flood drills. As I'm sure many of you are aware, Prague Zoo was struck by a devastating flood in 2002 and has had to re-build over half their zoo.

The gorilla pavillion now includes a flood tower and twice a year, they have a flood drill. A siren blares and the entire troop acsend the tower with commendable haste as part of the drill. It's inspiring how seriously they take it and a reminder of how intellgient this species is considering thsi is not a daily routine.

Flooding is not a problem at Taronga, as it is situated on a steep incline.

    :p

Sorry for the mix-up, I meant the flood drill was at Prague Zoo (where ex-Taronga Zoo gorillas Shinda and Kijivu now live) :D
