    Hornbill, you will have the wrath of Patrick and others upon you... You have put this post in entirely the wrong place- it should be in Chester Zoo, or Uk Zoos, not the General Forum -as its got no discussion value.... Go back to square 1. Do not pass Go....:(

    Well I thought that other people could post other information about names of animals at All zoos. Like Nesbitt that used to live at Blackbrook, Violet the Bennet's cassowary at San Diego zoo and Loads of other animals with personalities.

    If no-one does reply in this way, then I'll move it ( or ask sim to move it ) Over to the Chester zoo section.

    Previous Brazilian tapirs at Chester have included:
    F – Lyta. Born 08/09/2004.Parents Jennifer and Cuzco’s - their 4th calf.
    M – Londo. Born 2002. Parents Jennifer and Cuzco.
    M - G'Kar. Born in 2001. Parents Jennifer and Cuzco.
    M – Atu. Born at the zoo - year?
    F – Donna – born before 1990.
    Think the above it correct.

    Is this topic just going to be about chester zoo then or other zoos also?
    (I know many names of the tapirs at various zoos - I have been compiling a list for my tapirfanclub site! :eek:).

    Donna was born in August 1979, her parents were the pair which arrived in 1974, and bred their first calf in 1978. Donna was sent to Woodland Park Zoo, Seattle in September 1982.

    History of Gina;
    Gina is very small for an adult female Sumatran Orangutan.
    She arrived at Jersey with a slightly younger male of the Bornean species/subspecies, called Giles. Her first offspring, a male called 'Tunku' was a hybrid produced with Giles. Jersey were planning to seperate Giles and Gina before they could breed but Giles proved he was already fertile...

    Later she was paired with Sumatran male 'Gambar,' obtained from London Zoo as a mate for her. She had more offspring with Gambar, including her daughter 'Mawar' who still lives with her at Jersey and then a male called 'Kluett' who now lives in Australia (first at Taronga Park,but he has recently moved to Adelaide Zoo.)

    After Gambar died, Jersey got a new male 'Dagu' from a private owner. This male had lived alone for some years but he still proved perfectly okay for breeding and he fathered Gina's last baby. For some reason this was a difficult birth and 'Gina' had to have an emergency Caesarian. This was successful and within 24 hours Gina was reunited with her new son 'Jiwa' which she has reared perfectly. This will probably be Gina's last infant though.
