I hope they really get the damn good hiding from the authories that they so clearly deserve.

I also hope that this makes the rounds on social media so the public can see what a bunch of pretentious and incompetent fools they are (though I have no doubt that they will try to absolve their own responsibility).

Most probably they will just twist the narrative by claiming that these problems were preexisting and have no connection to them.

    ******!

I also find it suspicious that they share their posts with monochrome or deeply edited photos.

All the hallmarks for bad animal management and husbandry where there on the outset. It is a crying shame that authorities have allowed this to even proceed given the bad reputation the zoo had and the obvious inexperienced non expert "team" taking over management. The latter in itself should have given authorities plenty of pro jure to deny a licence. Furthermore, when EAZA signalled their dismay it should have been code red purple for the authorities in the first place.

The "bad apple" example of a black rhino dying needlessly over change of diet by dereliction of duty of care by the new "zoo team" spoke volumes. I was equally surprised though that even EAZA did not take matters further and intervened in this example of inadequate care and judgement by new keeping staff and management and took up the matter with the European courts.

@PossumRoach Really difficult to summarize but I will try.

In France, when you run a zoo you need to respect a lot of rules coming from sewage system to capacity to manage wild animals. This zoo has difficulties for a long time with a lot of technical rules but the major problem is the lack of a person agreed to manage the animals. Since the end of june, the person in charge of the capacity lost it and in french law if you don't have it you can't open.

Since a week, the local administration said to the new owner that they have to resolve the technical problems and get a capacitary before the end of the month. The new owner answered that a lot of problems were there before and it's not normal to ask to resolve the difficulties in a few days. Moreover, they said they don't need a capacitary as the keepers had animals in charge for several years and had the knowledge to manage them.

And two days ago, the local administration learn that some children were visiting the zoo which is not allowed at all. So they made an order prohibiting visits.

To complete, a capacity is really difficult to obtain. You have to present an important file to a special commission and justify to have some experience with animals you want to manage. The file is really important and not all keepers (for exemple) could obtain the capacity. Of course, the knowledge you need is different when you want to hold fishes than carnivores...

So, it's the 30th of September. Will the inspection reports come out in hours?

I also have been getting pay walled articles on Pont Scorf on my Google chrome news feed. It's a shame I don't know any French to properly understand the articles.

There is not so much more in the last newspaper articles published the last days.
I can only say that Rewild wants to file a lawsuit against the previous owners, the local authorities... all the world in general !
Now we have to wait few days to know if they can go on with the zoo or not.

Before I cause the thread to go political I can imagine another group of activists saying “that wasn’t real animal liberation.”

My statement is based on a stereotype I heard on the internet making fun of communists. Basically a communist regime is brought up and the communist sympathizer says "that wasn't real communism".

There is a solution: carnivores can eat zoo owners and other activists.

This is absolutely logical. If one believes that animals have rights, so a life of an animal rights activist has the same value as a goat normally eaten by a tiger.

And Australian philosophers, euthanized while asleep, for the dessert! ;)

Seriously - I hope this case will be publicized as a warning to others.

Do you have a source for this? Not that I question it, but these are some hefty claims. Anyone know if EAZA is bothered at all?
EDIT: just checked the EAZA member map and they dont seem to be on it...

It's an official document from 2 september in French from the Préfet du Morbihan, the French region where the zoo is located.

Just uploaded the 4 pages document in the media gallery of the zoo. It's in French unfortunately so not for everybody easy to read.
