When we were in Santiago earlier this year, we did intend to visit the city zoo, but as it turned out, the only day we had spare the zoo was not open Just wondering what other people thought of the zoo - I've heard some negative things about it (poor enclosures etc).
I am sorry too. We got as far as the front door, only to have the same experience. It is supposedly one of those S.American zoos you love to hate, but as I have not been there I cannot make up my mind about it. It is said though that Santiago Zoo is involved in southern pudu conservation and is a major breeder of them. They do research on the species for their survival with the Buenos Aires Zoo. But as to enclosures and collection beats the hell out of me till the present! If I ever make it out to Santiago again, for sure I will visit.
Yes I've been there, though it was a few years ago. See my post in this thread: http://www.zoobeat.com/2/best-continents-zoos-18130/#post54022
