So, I was looking through the LA Zoo and saw some interesting additions they wanted to add into the zoo

    Blue ringed octopus
    Banded sea krait
    Cone Snail
    Painted anglerfish
    Brush-tailed rat kangaroo

Does anyone know of these animals in captivity? I think I may of heard of a tropical fish shop in Florida getting the octopus (for some reason)

The octopus is indeed around in private hands, and it wouldn't surprise me if the snail and anglerfish are too. The sea krait was in captivity in Europe until recent years, but is no longer kept in public collections - no idea if it is in private hands too.

The brush-tailed bettong is in a fair few European collections.

Well, the problem with 2 of those animals is if they're in a bad mood when you're handling them, you don't even have time to call 911.

I'm curious to know which of the three deadly ones you don't think is a problem? :p

I was focusing on the octopus and the snail, forgot the snake.

Toledo Zoo keeps a species of banded sea snake.

Do you have a scientific name on the Painted Anglerfish? I believe it is kept privately, but a scientific name will help confirm.

Having checked, it is Antennarius pictus - which is indeed kept in public collections, as I've seen it myself ;)

I had no idea they were in captivity! Must not be that many here in the US. Where did you see them?

Ah yes, I have seen that species offered for sale by a variety of companies. Can't say I've seen any kind of frogfish in a public aquarium yet though.

LA already held brush-tailed bettong for a while, they were in the nocturnal Australian house. At some point they disappeared; sounds like maybe they are coming back?

There is a breeding program in North America for that species and they are found across the US.

I've seen them at the Aquarium of the Pacific in 2018.

When I went to New Caledonia in 2011, I think that the Noumea Aquarium had both of New Caledonia's native species of banded sea krait (a yellow-hued species and a blue-hued species).

Until recently small numbers were kept in North America and Europe, however all these animals are now gone (the last one was at Brookfield Zoo and died in 2017 or 2018, I can't remember which). I don't know if this species is present in captivity elsewhere.

They're also at the National Zoo, are they not?
