The zoo has a 10 episode series on the CBC (a Canadian TV network) called Arctic Vets which follows veterinary, conservation and research, and animal care teams. It airs Friday nights at 8:30pm EST.

A baby White Handed Gibbon was born last month to parents Samson and Maya.

Name that gibbon! Winnipeg zoo wants help naming latest addition

    The naming options are:
Winnipeggers can choose between the names Mozart (after the composer), Merrick (meaning “fame,” “power” or “ruler”), Mele (a Hawaiian song or chant) or Manas (meaning “intelligence” or “mind”).

2 female llamas have been born since the start of May. They are living with their moms in the new Aunt Sally's Farm area. Unfortunately with the zoo closed again it will be awhile before anyone can see them.

The zoo has been accepted into the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums which will allow them to join in other training, research and conservation programs.

True. You'd think I'd remember that! (I have worked on this project with the Assiniboine team since 2012)

The zoo won the CAZA Eleanore Oakes Award for their conservation and education program called Beluga Bits. They are sharing the award with Toronto who won for a different program.

Snow leopards Batu, Kyanada and Bodhi are all headed to Vancouver as they are unnecessary to future SSP plans. Batu is an older girl so past her prime anyway. The boys... well they are just too related to other snow leopards to be of any real use. They will however make an excellent addition to Vancouver's collection.
