I would rather see Aussies keep native fauna as pets rather than cats.
Our Bandicoots are great small creatures but one draw back is most are nocturnal......
but then cats sleep allot of the day!
In WA reptiles can be kept under license - eg- bobtails etc: I believe
    Regards Joy

i have kookaburras, and will be adding wallabies and maybe an emu, to the collection in the spring of 2010. kooks eat alot, not particularly great at travelling from breeder to new owner either, and at 3am on summer mornings, NOISY to say the least.

    ZYBen,

A forum for the keeping of Australian mammals is a great idea - but can I second the suggestion that you widen the net to include all native species?

Although I'm an inactive animal keeper at the moment (due to having to live in the inner city for uni) I'm an occasional poster at Aussiepythons&snakes, but there is an annoying lack of bird-keeping fora, especially for people who keep birds in flight and mixed aviaries.
