Mogo’s bulls are indeed her sire and half brothers. The regional giraffe population will no doubt experience some significant changes soon given the giraffe IRA for New Zealand is now complete. The obvious initial imports for the region are a bull for Orana Willdife Park; and a cow for Auckland Zoo. I’ve speculated their apparent decision to delay breeding from their youngest cow to be a consequence of anticipating this import. Irregardless of when Australia’s giraffe IRA is finalised, they could potentially import via New Zealand given giraffe imports from New Zealand are permitted (as long as the giraffe has lived on New Zealand soil for a defined period - I’m assuming 12 months as per the previous Bovid requirements).
Aside from the imports I’m predicting for Orana and Auckland (Orana are without a breeding bull; and Auckland Zoo have the resources to import), Hamilton will be interesting to watch given they have three elderly bulls and will soon be at a crossroads where they could switch to holding a breeding herd. In any case, Hamilton Zoo are the best equipped of New Zealand’s four main zoos to act as holding station for imports from outside the region, which could then be transferred to Australia if it was determined that was the best way to serve the regional population. Ideally, Australia will have it’s own giraffe IRA completed in the near future.
Tuli's calf was born today, both the calf (female) and mother looked to be doing really well. I am not sure how to format these things but... 0.1 Unamed (Mtundu x Tuli) 12-09-2022 Mogo Wildlife Park.
It's down to the individual preference of the thread author. Personally I follow the format: 1.0 Name (DD/MM/YYYY) Sire x Dam
0.1 calf at Mogo Wildlife Park has been named Lilibet in honour of the Queen’s recent passing. The name will generally be shorten to Lili - reported on social media.
1.0 Kabelo has been transferred to Halls Gap Zoo from his birthplace of Altina Wildlife Park. This gives Halls Gap a group of four males. He arrived this morning: Log into Facebook | Facebook
0.0.2 calves have been born at Taronga Western Plains Zoo to 0.1 Asmara and 0.1 Nyah. Asmara's calf was born on 4th October and Nyah's calf was born a day later. This gives the zoo four calves so far this year. They join 1.0 Wayo born to 0.1 Mvita and 0.1 Matata born to 0.1 Ntombi - reported in the news thread and I confirmed via email regarding which female had what calf as Mvita's name appeared twice for two of the births.

1.0 Akiki at Perth Zoo will be soon be moving to a zoo on the east coast - specifically Sydney Zoo which was confirmed by the zoo in the comment section of their post. When he arrives this will provide Sydney with their first male joining their two females Eyelean (born in 2018 at Monarto) and Nzuri (born in 2019 at Canberra) - reported on social media.
0.1 Manzi at Altina Wildlife Park has given birth to a male calf. The sire is Shaka (born at Monarto in 2004) and this is his first calf - reported on social media.
I don't know if this has been mentioned but 2 Giraffe cows at Monarto are pregnant with the last of the previous breeding bull's offspring .
1.0 Jasiri at Orana Wildlife Park has been euthanised due to an untreatable bone condition attributed to the leg fracture he sustained soon after birth: 登录 Facebook | Facebook 1.0 Akiki from Perth has arrived safely at Sydney Zoo joining two females. He has been introduced to them already: 登录 Facebook | Facebook
That’s unfortunate news. With Orana Wildlife Park’s herd now reduced to four females, they’ll be looking to import a new bull giraffe - which I’m hoping will be from outside the region. New Zealand’s giraffe IRA is now completed, so there’s no reason they shouldn’t be looking further afield this time.
0.1 Thula at Monarto Safari Park has given birth to 1.0 calf. Unfortunately the calf was not seen feeding and had to be separated for handrearing. He was transported to Adelaide Zoo for intensive monitoring and is a full sibling to 0.1 Nolean: 登录 Facebook | Facebook
0.1 Kamili at Orana Wildlife Park has given birth to her first calf. Sire would be the late 1.0 Mabuti from Monarto. The male calf had to be handraised following his birth just before Christmas off-site at Rangiora Vet Centre but has now returned to the park. He will be on-display as of tomorrow with the rest of the herd: 登录 Facebook | Facebook
