I'm delighted to see that, if the plans are to come true, they have avoided the temptation to include a "Bruce's Pub" or suchlike - as seen at Hannover and Jihlava (and I'm sure many others as well).

Walkabout Australia will be opening roughly at the beginning of June.

We're about halfway through winter with very little rain. If this keeps up so should the opening date.

I was invited to attend the media event of the opening of Walkabout Australia on May 24th. We were asked not to post photos until today. I will post them in the gallery now.

Is it true a Maori dance troup was used at the opening?

That’s no problem. Glad to hear SDZ recognises our territorial sovereignty.

Yeah, the link went down a few weeks back. Considering construction is still going along well I don't think there is a need to worry.

What's the estimated completion date? I'm now considering going to San Diego by the end of the year, but I don't want to go if I won't get to see the platypuses :)

I heard later in the fall is possible, so you may be able to see them by then.

I'd be willing to bet my life savings (of Monopoly money....) that the completion date of the exhibit is not the same as "when the platypus will actually be there".

If you really want to see the platypus, I would wait until they officially announce the platypus and that the exhibit is open. When they opened their Australia exhibit at the zoo they announced that Tasmanian devils were coming, but it took several months before the devils arrived and were on exhibit.

I wonder if there will be stupid long lines that limit your viewing time, ala Pandas. Its been a long time since Americans could see live platypuses

Oh my god, we're finally getting platypi!
