    On the topic of deer, I wonder if Mt. Hutt Station will ever distribute their Pere David's deer to other facilities/farms/wildlife parks. Would be a shame to see them die out in NZ.

    They could be elsewhere - but I have never come across any reference to them being so. I have seen a couple of references to them being used for "hunting" but I don't know if that's accurate or through confusion. There are some "canned hunt" outfits in New Zealand though.

    I agree it is a shame to have the species in New Zealand and not to be able to see it displayed anywhere.
