Obviously they have not weighed the baby, journalists are famous for misprinting fact. I would say this is an estimation of weight based on the average size for a baby gorilla!
Yes, I'd worked that out, hence the exclamation mark rather than a question mark! Anyway congratulations Dublin for your new baby whatever the weight!
The big question... The gender of the baby will be revealed during The Zoo program on Friday 15th April. It's avaliable to view online outside Ireland Dublin Zoo releases gorilla birth footage - Life - Life | Ireland's online business and management news service - Businessandleadership.com
There is one paragraph in this that refers to the baby as 'her' twice, then later reverts to 'it'. Either the writer knows and messed up the press release, or its a genuine error. We will know after tomorrow.
Despite the official rejoicing its a pity it wasn't a female Lena has had four males on the trot now- only her very first (Grace, now at Wuppertal) was female.
Lovely news, and especially now that work is well underway on the new enclosure. The map in the gorilla house of what it is to look like, looks very impressive. It will be great for the troop, the current enclosure is too outdated and catered for a different time period and audience. The gorillas need the privacy and space the new enclosure will bring. Well done to the zoo for finally gettign it started. Hopefully there will be more borths like this in the future.
