Oly, a 15 years old male striped hyena, left the zoo last week to Bouillon in Belgium. He is now retired from the breeding program.
A new male called Ed arrived to join Shinaï, the resident female. It is hope the new pair will bred soon.

In 2016 Oly and Shinaï hae four cubs. One of them is now father in Réserve de la Haute Touche.

La Barben received 4 males Cuvier's gazelle from Sigean. This is now the second holder in Europe outside Spain. This transfer has been made to make more space for the breeding pair in Sigean.

The zoo is building a new african dwarf crocodiles exhibit out of the reptile house. They will have a new building near the cassowary and will benefit of an outdoor enclosure. The idea for the zoo is to give large new exhibits with outdoors for all the crocodilian species.

This park is continuously going up ! Latest news : it will take part in conservation of the Crau plain grasshopper Prionotropis hystrix rhodanica which is classified as critically endangered by IUCN.
Some animals will arrive during spring in a new off-show breeding facility in the zoo where they can produce new grasshoppers who will be released into the wild. This action is one of the project "Life SOS Criquet de Crau" supported by the European Commission where some NGOs and state establishments are involved (like Besançon's Museum).

Other news : the 2 (1,1) great curassows born last summer will leave in a few weeks. The male will go to Beauval and the female to Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon.

Nice looking exhibit. Personally, I would have more than welcomed dama and Cuvier gazelle.

I am not sure you can mix the Cuvier's gazelle with other animals easily and the EEP coordinator allow this. Moreover, you know how strong could be the wild ass.
