I found this very interesting: Dwarf crocodiles living most of the lifetime in caves and feeding with bats that falls on the floor. Older males turn to show orange colour most probably due to alkaline water in the caves; youngsters better developed than their counterparts in the rainforest, because of the free bat-diet : https://www.newscientist.com/articl...term=Autofeed&cmpid=SOC%7CNSNS%7C2016-Echobox Hope so there is not thread or post about this issue; If yes, I appologise. It would be very intresting, to see nocturnal cave-like enclosure in a zoo, with crocodiles like these and with bats.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but the Bronx Zoo keeps a pair of Nile crocodiles in a replicated "tsingy cave" in its Madagascar! exhibit. ZooLex Picture 5
Yes I know; actualy I had as cover photo on facebook, those crocs in the cave, and the photo is still there on my fb profile
Central Park Zoo has a dark exhibit with a Cuvier’s caiman and Seba’s short-tailed bats in it. Too bad that many crocodilians eat bats... I hope you indicated the author of said photo on FB...
I did it now. I hoped there is not need for such thing...otherwise would remove the photo, anyway it was posted in December 2014.
Short (0:48) ilustrative video about the orange crocodiles, on French : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qP3-BK6OgMM
