As an American I find it infuriating that they tacked on this unrelated motion (drilling in ANWR) to the tax "reform" bill. Of course the tax bill is in itself troubling because it just gives to the rich and increases the national debt. Hopefully the oil drilling will be stalled or curtailed, as the article states. When George W Bush was president and Republicans controlled both House and Senate they tried to push drilling in ANWR also, but it didn't happen. A congressional committee chairman who was in charge of funding for Smithsonian even forced the Natural History Museum to move a proposed photo exhibition on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from the museum's main hall to the basement and forced them not to print that the photos were taken at the refuge. They were selling ANWR as a barren landscape and did not want photos showing how beautiful it is. In spite of their strongarm tactics, the drilling never happened so we can hope it won't happen now.
