    Updates from my visit today:

    • The Woodland Building was closed due to flooding.
    • The fish tank and waterfowl aviary are still closed, though I actually saw some birds in the aviary. Hope that means it will reopen soon!
    • A Green Heron now inhabits the Wetland Aviary.
    • The American Crows and North American Porcupine were off-exhibit.
    • I saw the Eastern Tiger Salamander for the first time today.

Also, I noticed today that the greenhouse in the Nature Center is labelled "Greenhouse Aviary". I have never seen a bird in there, and it is locked all the time. Does anyone know if there are birds in there?

One more thing I forgot to mention: behind the counter selling corn there was a small cage containing one Tree Swallow, one Barn Swallow, and one Cliff Swallow. No idea if this is permanent or not.

    Updates from my visit today:

    • There was a Tundra Swan free-roaming the Observation Building today! I asked a keeper about it and she said that the three swans I always see in the summer here (two Tundra and one Trumpeter) are actually free-roaming animals owned by Bay Beach. The other two swans were in winter quarters, but this swan was allowed to roam the building today.
    • Many, many bats in the Rehabilitation Center. The Common Nighthawk I noted last time is apparently still there.
    • The fish tank in the Observation Building is still dark with an "Exhibit closed" sign on it. It does, however, contain feeder fish, suggesting there may be something in there.
    • By far the most interesting things were the wildlife. Bay Beach is always overrun with wild Canada Geese and Mallards, but today there was some more interesting things. There were many American Black Ducks, and a Mallard x Northern Pintail hybrid.
    • The Waterfowl Aviary is still closed, but contains more animals than ever. I saw American Wigeon, Canvasback, Canada Goose, Northern Pintail, Snow Goose, Ring-Necked Pheasant, and Eastern Gray Squirrel.
    • I believe the honeybee hive is permanent closed.
    • The Button Quail was "temporarily off-exhibit".
    • The plastic castle-like hide is no longer in the Guinea Pg exhibit.
    • I didn't see the otters today, I think they were off-exhibit as well.
    • Bobcats and Cougars were both super active.
    • They still are.
    • A sign outside the deer and crane exhibit said: "Danger: Beware of crane"!

One more thing: the swallow cage is no longer there. To the best of my knowlege, the swallows are still kept bts.

    Updates from my visit today:

    • A Dark-eyed Junco is now in the forest aviary.
    • No more American Goldfinches or Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers on exhibit.
    • There is now a Wood Duck on exhibit in the Wetland Aviary.
    • The Free-flight Aviary has opened! I will be posting a species list in the species list thread.
    • There was still nothing in the old Button Quail exhibit, but now there was a sign for European Starling!:confused:
    • The Ball Python is no longer on-exhibit, with a Corn Snake in its place.
    • The Domestic Guinea Pig exhibit is now inhabited by an African Pygmy Hedgehog.
    • I think the American Crows and porcupine are gone.
    • They either transitioned from keeping Ruwenzori Long-haired Fruit Bats to Straw-colored, or they changed the sign.

Is the juvenile in the main bald eagle exhibit or somewhere else?

Then it may be the chick that hatched last May. I actually work at the sanctuary during the school year through a work study program with UW Green Bay. I was actually the first to discover the new chick in May, so it'd be exciting if the chick is still there! I haven't been able to spend much time outside while working yet, so I'll have to keep an eye out for the juvenile now. Thank you!

I have no idea why they would hold a deer hunt.

It is to prevent starvation. The sanctuary is wildly over populated with deer right now. With winter coming and food sources about to plummet, I think it's a healthy option, and would only be allowed in certain areas of the park, if it happens at all.
