During December and January 3 Gorillas born at Zoo Beauval !
The biggest development at Beauval this year is an extension to the current African area to include Common Hippos for the first time. This morning after several months of construction and a lot of hard work the first Hippo finally arrived. Young male, Kvido came from Ostrava. Further Hippos are expected in the coming weeks
2 Notable avian arrivals are pairs each of Andean cock of the rock and great blue turaco.
The new hippo enclosure opens this weekend, looks fantastic.

Small (but Strong) Rhino Calf Debuts at Zoo de Beauval - ZooBorns
Can anybody confirm the arrival of the female pygmy hippo"Lani"from Basle Zoo, and does the zoo already has a male ? So I hope, its true and Beauval is one of the few european zoo with both hippo species, elephants and two rhino species.
A common hippo arrived from Basel as far as I am aware, not a pygmy hippo...
Our friends at Zoonaute have mentioned that African Elephant, N'Dala is due to undergo AI treatment this week. If successful this will be the 2nd birth for N'Dala following the arrival of Rungwe in 2012
A pair of White-bellied Sea Eagles have arrived from Jurong.
Something for TLD to remove from his 'species lost in Europe' thread.
New species for Zoo de Beauval : a pair of Beisas.
Beisa oryx (East African oryx) right?
Yes thats the one ..... euh 2 .
Sure they did not have some already (BTW: Beauval is involved in Djibouti project - rehabiliation Djibouti wildlife, including beisa and Somali wild ass and Grevy's zebra)?
What is your source?
For 2017 the zoo will be building new enclosures for lions and African hunting dog as well as building an extension to the African elephant paddock.
@Kifaru Bwana: Beauval has indeed Beisas already. I have seen them in person 10 days ago.
@Kiang: In which direction they will extend the African elephant paddock (by the way: there are two outdoor exhibits)
The new extension will be at the foot of both existing paddocks
What will become of the former lion exhibits Kiang?

Its a bull calf, born at Friday. Its the first calf to mother"Henna", born 2010 at Basel zoo. Unfortunately, her son has not the white left front leg like his mother.
