I am sad to announce that Lulu the Cheetah has sadly died. She was born on the 11th of May 1999, making her only 43 days younger than me and one of the oldest cheetah in Europe. Unfortunately with Lulu's death, i believe that there will no longer be any cheetahs at Belfast. Can anyone confirm this for me? Belfast Zoo said on their facebook page: We are sad to announce the recent death of Lulu the cheetah. Lulu was born on 11 May 1999, in Beekse Bergen Safari Park, in Holland. She later moved to Paignton zoo before arriving at Belfast Zoo in December 2006. Zoo vet, Michael Griffith, said “At the age of 16, Lulu was one of the oldest cheetahs in Europe. The average age for a cheetah is eight to twelve years, so she certainly had a long and happy life at Belfast Zoo. Due to Lulu’s age, we had been continually monitoring her health. We started to notice a decline in her wellbeing over recent months. We discovered that she had problems with her liver and abscesses in her mouth, due to her age. Lulu received continual veterinary treatment in her last days but sadly passed away on Wednesday 9 March 2016.” Zoo curator, Julie Mansell, said “The zoo team are all deeply saddened by Lulu’s passing. Only last year, we completed renovations to her enclosure and house to allow her to fully enjoy her golden years. Despite the fact that she was one of Europe’s oldest cheetahs she was always energetic and a joy to work with and care for. Over the past ten years, she became a popular member of the zoo family, both with staff and visitors, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her!”
The zoo's 35th Rothschild's giraffe was born in front of visitors on 5th April. https://www.facebook.com/belfastzoo/photos/pcb.1004970312874122/1004969779540842/?type=3&theater

Interesting reading that they thought Gugas had very poor fertility, he seems to bear out what my years in human fertility treatment suggested, if one half has poor fertility a fertile other half can overcome it.
