New species; Ross' turaco. It seems to have replaced the little bittern and lilac-breasted roller in the monal enclosure.

Visited BestZoo today for the first time in 13 years, it really should get a name change to CrapZoo. Almost nothing seems to have changed in terms of enclosures, bar average fossa and wombat enclosures. A lot of the old stuff still exists, but is nowadays stocked with rarities. The yellow-throated marten cages really are shameful, as are the big cat enclosures and the primate enclosures (even more so indoors: the 7 spider monkeys have about 6 square metres of indoor enclosure with hardly any sun light). To see 4 tamandua locked indoors on 4 square metres with hardly any natural light and very little climbing structure was quite saddening too. Most enclosures are on the small side, if not far too small, and basically all lack any privacy and I did not see any enrichment either.... They have some rare birds, but as the aviaries are right next to the visitors, quite some birds were visibly stressed, like the European bee-eaters and red-footed falcons.... I really had hoped that this type of zoo would be gone from the Netherlands by now, but it still appears to be possible... Even though it has many rarities, I would not advise anyone to visit this place....

I visited the zoo 2 months ago and at that time the construction of the new entrance / giraffe enclosure was still in full proces.

A male jaguar born at Best Zoo has recently been moved to Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka. He will now go into quarantine for a month and will then be introduced to a female.

I am preparing for a trip around Holland. Are Allen's Gallinules, Brown Dorcopsis, Buff-Necked Ibis, Eastern Spotted Skunks, Derby's Woolly Opossums and Green-Cheeked Parakeets at Best? If so, where and when can they be best seen?
