I totally agree with what Jay has said about the native animals. Although it is great to learn about animals that are in my backyard, I like to see exotic animals that I will most likely never get to see. Maybe this is why we do not have house cats, dogs, and hamsters in zoos.
At Givskud Zoo in Denmark, the barrier at the rear of the large outdoor Gorilla enclosure looks like simply electrified sheep- netting. I think the Silverback has been outside it at least once....
Taronga zoo in sydney has two dogs, i think their Boder collies, that they use in the kids zoo to demonstrate herding sheep. its really popular with the kids. they also have a family of minuture pigs, sheep, two miniture goats one of whom is pregnant, a whole heap of chickens as well as mice rabbits and guinea pigs
Zoology I am very new to ZooChat. However i am not new to the world in general. I strongly feel zoo's Do Not need large animals to have the public want to visit. Its all about the advertizing. Having a "Did You Know" information put out, it makes a simple cockroach seem interesting. As wildlife ambassodors it is our duty.
nanoboy- He probably found it by finding the "Must Read ZooChat threads" thread which has a sticky on it, and finding this as one of the must-reads. Zoology- That is, if the general public actually does read the Did you Know.
