Excellent news and great news for EEP. Aside, sure they have taken measures for a no repeat this time. What you all think? It was but a freak accident and you just can't win all battles.
It was indeed a freak accident, at least that is one they will obviously never repeat. Hopefully there won't be others waiting round the corner, as rearing baby animals often involves unforeseen circumstances like that.
Tragic accident, though I sometimes find the one thing you think the least likely to happen, ends up being one of the first things too happen. But that's life all over, who would have thought the mother would have carried the first cub out side when it was still so young? May be being in the new enclosure unsettled her a little
Melati and cubs have made there debut this week Tiger cubs make public debut | Zoological Society of London (ZSL)
It was certainly a long time ago! - ZSL London last had a successful cub in 1996 (However this was hand-reared and coincidentally, is Melati's father, Hari! ) I don't think ZSL London have ever had mother reared cubs successfully anyhow, going through the studbook I have - I can't find any information regarding successful cubs.
If they have, it would have been before circa 1960's. I've been going there since the 1950's and I can never remember Tiger Cubs even in those earlier days(Lion cubs yes). However I have seen old postcards of a tigress with cubs which looks very much like ZSL. I'm sure Tim May can provide an answer here.
