Another new species for the new giant anteaters' pampa : plains viscachas.
This will be the only holder for France :)

So we know more about the new exhibit : there will be two enclosures, one open top and an aviary. The giant anteaters will be in the open top and the aviary will receive the blue-throated macaws, plains viscachas, burrowing-owls and sun conures (this is another new species).

Gaïa, a female Linnaeus' two-toed sloth born at the park, gave birth to her first baby last december 31st. Father is Juan. The park has another breeding pair and now is home to 7 two-toed sloths !

Recent and interesting news from Biotropica :
    - A paraguyan tamandua has been born last May 30th and it's a nice girl !
    - a cotton-top tamarin was born in april,
    - plains viscachas are doing well and the park is hoping to breed them soon,
    - there are 3 female gharials and 2 youngs. The two youngs (not related with the adults) will be gendered in the next few weeks and the park hopes to have at least a male that can breed in the future,
    - fennec foxes are no more in the collection,
    - the park is hoping to receive a breeding group of Livingstone's flying fox to join its three males already there,
    - a new exhibit for naked-moled rats will open before the end of the year,
    - three (1,2) northern dry zone slender lorises arrived during summer and will be on show in a mixed exhibit in some weeks,
    - a new aquarium will be home to 1.000 piranhas and some river stingrays,
    - due to the construction of the aquarium the coendous are off-show but will come back on-show with a new exhibit and aerial trail.

Now I have confirmation that Biotropica received the two young crab-eating racoons born last year in Pescheray.

A friend visited Biotropica a few days ago, naked-mole rats are visible, but the signs point to a second species : the Zambian mole rat (Fukomys amatus) !
Do you have more specific information?

ZooTierListe doesn't seem to list this species at all. Seems like a new species in European public collections.

Is it definitely not Fukomys anselli? That is around in European zoos and is endemic to Zambia. Still a very nice acquisition if so!

It would be nice if they could just have photographed the scientific name too, F. ansellii is referred to as Zambian mole rat by e.g. Zoo Basel, so wouldn't be an unheard of error.

Interesting info that I didn't heard before and for which I don't find anything on french website.
The zoological director is known for welcoming rarely seen species in France and has good relationship with foreigner zoos so not a big surprise if Ansell's mole-rat arrived (I doubt it could be other species).
There is chance I go to the park during summer so will try to have the info (if someone don't get before) ;)
