Male Amur Tiger Radzi will be leaving for his new home at Zoo Santo Inácio after a delayed original move "It's time to say our goodbyes!! Radzi's departure has been rescheduled and (assuming everything goes to plan this time) he'll be leaving us early next week. Radzi's travelling to his new home at Zoo Santo Inácio in Portugal to join his future mate, a three year old female called Mila. It's been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to watch these two cubs grow up together and we know Radzi will be missed by staff and visitors, but we can't wait to hear how he gets on his new home."
Radzi has now moved to Zoo Santo Inácio and is said to have settled in well. Does anyone know the plans for Barney? Also a Capybara was born last week.
This isn't the first time that a zoo has trumpeted the birth of a domestic camel as if it were of conservation relevance. By exactly the same logic, every time a domestic donkey drops a foal, it's a triumph for the conservation of the African wild ass! Shame on Blackpool Zoo for this piece of lying rubbish.
Excellent news from Blackpool - 2 Eastern white pelicans chicks are being hand-reared with a further 2 being parent-reared .
I just looked on the Facebook page for this, and they have said it in a confusing way - "in 2015 we celebrated again as Charlie hatched, and became the UK's first hand reared pelican chick..." It makes it out to be like no one in a UK collection has hand reared any species of pelican before.
From Facebook: Last week we said goodbye to our female tapir, Melly, as she left us to join another collection in the UK. A few of our keepers popped into see her over the weekend, and we're pleased to report that she's settling in really well and seems to be thoroughly enjoying her new home. G'Kar won't be on his own for too long though as we're eagerly awaiting a new female, who should be arriving in the next few weeks... so watch this space!!
Visited yesterday for the first time in about 8 years. The zoo had a really nice feel and some of the new exhibits are quite impressive and I am looking forward to the new elephant house. The only bit of news is that a De Brazza's Monkey was born last week. Will upload some photos to the gallery now.
a very small cabinet has been put in the middle of the small monkey house awaiting a new arrival . Was hoping the new elephant house would mean the end of dinosaur land but they've got more in . Got that many now they've got a spare one dumped in the old summer pedestrian entrance.
The side by the entrance has either a very small Jamaican boa, or an invisible Jamaican boa. four Zoochatters failed to spot anything in there. The other side houses White's tree frogs. also a new viv has been opened in the Orang Utan house, housing Thailand Water Dragons.
