I would imagine if its still just the current two Elephants, they will have it open by then. But if the others have arrived from Twycross not long beforehand, then no.

Indeed, the enclosure and elephant house were still being worked on when I visited last week, but looked very close to, if not ready for, opening. The date will be dependant on the residents' readiness.

In the true spirit of Zoochat, I've popped a photo of the enclosure and house, with no visible elephant, in the gallery :D:D

Either way, it’s been over a year already since my last visit so I’m sure it will be novel regardless.

Sounds like the new enclosure won’t be open in time for a visit this month, but great to see things are progressing with establishing the herd.

Its very heartening to see these Elephants finally being moved for better breeding opportunity and the company(eventually) of a bull. A long overdue move IMO.

I know, and I have 17th - 27th March off work, which is when I was planning to go.

Do they still have any Ostriches in Blackpool Zoo? I just checked Zootierliste and it seems they have been moved into the former inventory, anyone know if they are still in with the Hartmann's mountain zebras?

There was a pair of Ostrich there when I visited in February, and yes, in the same area as the Zebra. They may have been separated, as the Zebra were on the hard standing.

Saturday March 24th has now been published as opening day for 'Project Elephant Base Camp'. So you're in luck :)

I saw this! However, I’m guessing that from Saturday onwards it’s likely going to be absolutely full of kids, which really puts me off. I was originally planning to go today, but I am full of cold at the moment and barely slept at all last night, so I didn’t fancy facing a long drive and headed to Knowsley instead. I’m currently thinking I’ll visit on Thursday . . . but before I decide, I’m going to check out the Easter holiday dates for Fylde to ensure I make the best informed decision!

I really enjoyed it, I think it’s been around 20 years since my last visit as a young child. Truly, the potholes aren’t so bad in comparison to what I’m used to dealing with on a daily basis - you should see the potholes where I live! The tiger development doesn’t seem to have come along a whole lot, so it appears to be slow progress there!

I saw a pair of ostrich mixed with a pair of zebra today within the same exhibit. No separation.

Unfortunately Zootierliste can sometimes be a little incorrect with current and former holdings do as I do and just use it as a guide.

And that is exactly why I don't fully trust Zootierliste with both current & former inventories for some zoos. (Like for example, if a species has left one zoo but is still shown on the current listing or if a species that was brought back to/still at the collection is still shown in the former listing).

In other words, just don't trust Zootierliste entirely with current & former holdings because it's not always going to get it right.

@tom_bear: I saw the outdoor enclosure a few months ago.
