    Sad news today:

We are saddened to announce that our elephant Toto had to be put to sleep this morning after she collapsed in her pen.
Staff tried to get her back onto her feet but with no success and sadly after the park veterinarians’ thorough examination a difficult decision was made to euthanize Toto to avoid continued stress and suffering.
Over the years our elephant team have worked tirelessly improving the welfare standards of our elephants ensuring they receive the best daily care particularly during the later stages of their lives, her keepers are devastated but they all understand that this was the last option and necessary and most humane course of action to take.
46 year old Toto came to the park in 1997 from Basel Zoo in Germany, the same year that her companion Modula arrived from Erfurt Zoo also in Germany.

I believe she came from World of Wings Bird of Prey Centre and is called Gandalf!

    Now sourced from facebook:

"Exciting News; it's love at first bite: A collaboration between ourselves and World Of Wings Birds Of Prey Centre has resulted in Alex, our 17 year old male Rüppells Griffon Vulture, being joined by a 12 year old female called Gandalf. She is on breeding loan from World Of Wings Birds Of Prey Centre. It has been a life-long ambition of Neil Davis (Head of Birds at Blair Drummond) to establish a vulture breeding programme. We think this is a first in Scotland for the Rüppells Griffon Vulture."
