Rhenen should have received its bonobos in 2020 out of France. Could it be the case they have not yet been arrived? And could it be the case the bonobos will come from an other zoo? Maybe a zoo with difficulties due to this pandemic of COVID-19?
Rhenen will still receive most of their bonobos from France, but COVID has delayed a lot of things for a lot of people including possible moves and exhibit construction. Bearing in mind at this point it’s been four years since Ouwehands made it clear they were to receive bonobos, a few more months of waiting is nothing I’d imagine. I’m sure we’ll receive an update when they actually move over.
Thanks! "Rhenen will receive most of their bonobos from France". Are there bonobos coming from an other location?
All of this is just a few clicks away up thread, but there is a rumour mentioned that Eja and her three sons will join the group of three males and six females that will come from Vallee des Singes.
LUIZA (*2005 in Leipzig) gave birth to a girl in Leipzig on april 30th. The sire is probably KASAI II or YARO (*2012).
The first bonobos (EJA and her three sons AYUBU, AZIBO and BAKARI) arrived in Rhenen from Zoo Wuppertal today (May 28th).
What a milestone and her son and eldest daughter are only two years away from celebrating their 60th and 55th birthdays respectively!
GEMENA (*2005 in Twycross to KEKE and CHEKA) gave birth to her first child in Cologne on July 4th. Sire is KIVU (*2007 in Berlin to VIFIJO and YALA).
I found in my database that the father of Gemena is Kakowet. I read ity on the forum (see below). Is it wrong and is indeed Keke her father?
For what it's worth my information also has Kakowet (II) as Sire of Gemena at Twycross. Kakowet (II) was recorded as Gemena's father on the Leipzig Zoo website when Gemena was there (2013-2020).
According to the studbook keeper KEKE is her father. The homepage of MPI of evolutionary anthropology is full of mistakes.
Have Frankfurt announced the gender/names of the bonobos born 30 Jan 21 to Hanna and 6 Feb 21 to Mixi? They would have been given names beginning with 'B'. I'm just curious about this as they have already named the Binturong twins that were born much later. Is there any news on names for the male born to Yahimba at Les Vallee des Singes in Nov 2020 or the female born to Nayembi at Planckendael on 1 Jan 2021?
I can't find any names, so probably not. EDIT: the bonobo born to Hanna is a male named Bokati, and the bonobo born to Mixi is a male named Boni. His name is Yago. Her name is Wakati
Busira gave birth at Planckendael on January 1st, her second baby after having Sanza in 2017. The bonobo group at Planckendael now counts 21 individuals, one of the largest in Europe. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=323049779718208
