The Sabah Wildlife Department wants to launch a Bornean clouded leopard captive breeding programme at the Kota Kinabalu Lok Kawi Wildlife Park. Conserving the Bornean leopard
the recent research on the distinctions between Sumatran and Bornean clouded leopards referred to in kiang's linked article is outlined in this link: BBC - Earth News - Two forms of world's 'newest' cat, the Sunda leopard Lok Kawi already has a male and female Bornean clouded leopard, but they told me when I was there that they don't want to try and put them together because they don't want them injuring one other. The younger female is on display; the male is off-display because he only has three legs (having lost the other in a poacher's snare)
Boy, would I love to photograph a sunda clouded leopard. One of the seven species of cats I have not photographed.
I would this a commendable effort alongside awareness building and in situ conservation efforts for the clouded leopard in Malaysian Sabah and Sarawak.
