A male Tawny Frogmouth has hatched, and has been named Little Frank. He was born on April 21, and is the offspring of Nathan and Hotdog, who’ve had five offspring in the past.

    Two Roseate spoonbill chicks hatch:

2 spoonbill chicks hatch, thriving at Brevard Zoo

The Brevard Zoo said that two roseate spoonbill chicks hatched in May and have since been thriving behind the scenes. In fact, they have just started eating solid food.

They said the younger chick is a female and the other's sex has yet to be determined.

4 Green Sea Turtles released into the wild:
Turtilla, Cookie, King Kamekameha and Samantha were all rescued by the zoo. Turtilla and King Kamekameha suffered from emaciation while Cookie and Samantha were affected by human debris, both were found entangled in fishing line. After being rescued and rehabbed by the zoo, they were released on July 22nd at Cocoa Beach. Normally rehabbed sea turtles are released alone or in pairs but this time, all the group was released together.

I have ambivalent feelings about this. On one hand, zoo should be open to new technologies like this. On the other hand: Why going with surreal electronic stuff when you can (and should) offer real animals and plants?

If it originated from Mexico I accept first base would be a facility in the US when confiscated at this side of the border, but would it not be beneficial to look at alternatives for later on sending it to one of the accredited Mexican facilities holding spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi).

Viz also the Jungle Place: The Jungle Place Spider Monkey Sanctuary - Quintana Roo, Mexico

BTW: I would also do much to improve the already "strained" relations with the US southern neighbour.
