Lesser Malayan Mouse Deer has been born.
Female Western Lowland Gorilla Kukeña is moving to Madrid.
Kukeña the gorilla is heading for a new home | Bristol Zoo
Knowing both her parents and grandparents( on one side) I kind of hoped she might be transferred to another UK zoo, where I could still visit, but wasn't very hopeful. After she leaves Afia will be the only in the group descended from any previous Bristol gorillas.
There is direct flights from Bristol to Madrid Make a short break out of it?
No need, its easy to follow her progress via Social media. That will have to do I think...but maybe sometime.
A Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo was born in November to mum Kitawa, and should hopefully be ready to leave the pouch soon
Amazing footage shows tiny tree kangaroo in mother’s pouch
Any plans to bring in any more female Gorillas to join the troop?
Over 50 camouflaged giant leaf insects have hatched.

Can someone please tell me if there are plans to bring more female Gorillas to Bristol Zoo.
This isn't news but just wanted to ask out of curiosity.
Were there ever any black lion tamarins kept at Bristol zoo ?
I have a faint memory of seeing one of these monkeys on one of the little islands in the lake in the middle of the zoo when I visited in the early 2000's but this could have been another lion tamarin species or a false memory.
You’re memory’s not lacking; Bristol held Black Lion Tamirans in the past.
The last I can find of them being mentioned (online) is back in 2009. Can anyone confirm when the final one/s died, or were exported?
Here’s a photo of one from 2009 @Maguari :
Aha ! Thank you very much Jambo ! very glad that my memory is still working well.
Excellent picture by the way !
Btw, that picture is @Maguari ’s. So praise him, not me.
I saw the species for the first time when I visited Bristol in early 2011; they died off at the collection sometime during the latter half of that year.
Ah I see , thanks for the info on the Bristol tamarins anyway , much appreciated !
@Maguari Brilliant photography !
What a shame that they didn't stick with keeping the species as Jersey has. Quite a pity really.
A pair of Kea chicks have hatched.

I don't recall seeing Bristol's black lions on the marmoset islands, I have photos of them in the first section of 'Zona Brasil' from the period between 2005 and 2010. They had good sized indoor and outdoor enclosures, but I don't think they bred successfully.

Has there been any rumours or word about when the zoo might reopen? I was thinking about a trip up to Bristol this month and the website doesn't give any indication when the zoo may reopen.
