Knowing both her parents and grandparents( on one side) I kind of hoped she might be transferred to another UK zoo, where I could still visit, but wasn't very hopeful. After she leaves Afia will be the only in the group descended from any previous Bristol gorillas.

Any plans to bring in any more female Gorillas to join the troop?

This isn't news but just wanted to ask out of curiosity.

Were there ever any black lion tamarins kept at Bristol zoo ?

I have a faint memory of seeing one of these monkeys on one of the little islands in the lake in the middle of the zoo when I visited in the early 2000's but this could have been another lion tamarin species or a false memory.

You’re memory’s not lacking; Bristol held Black Lion Tamirans in the past.

The last I can find of them being mentioned (online) is back in 2009. Can anyone confirm when the final one/s died, or were exported?

    Here’s a photo of one from 2009 @Maguari :

    You’re welcome.

Btw, that picture is @Maguari ’s. So praise him, not me. ;)

I saw the species for the first time when I visited Bristol in early 2011; they died off at the collection sometime during the latter half of that year.

What a shame that they didn't stick with keeping the species as Jersey has. Quite a pity really.

Has there been any rumours or word about when the zoo might reopen? I was thinking about a trip up to Bristol this month and the website doesn't give any indication when the zoo may reopen.
