Another one where I fear the margin may be the conversation, rather than the result. Primates. I already forget what godawful name they’ve given the collective of Paignton, Newquay and Living Coasts, but remember that you’re considering all three here.

Wow Jersey's enclosures look good! I'm tempted to vote 2-2 but I will wait until I see what Paignton's enclosures look like.
Thanks for doing my work. Edit: please don’t take this as sarcastic or passive aggressive, I realized it could come across that way. I just mean what i say
'Wild Planet Trust', IMHO an insult to the memory of Herbert Whitley. Probably not as daft as 'The King of Zoos', which is how they were trying to style themselves a few years ago. Don't get me wrong, I love those collections, just don't entirely appreciate some of the mumbo jumbo.

I like more the Jersey Zoo exhibits than the Paignton one but I will wait to vote because Paignton has more species than jersey.
From what I have seen of Paignton and Jersey, I reckon Jersey has better exhibits but an inferior species list. Therefore I am going to vote 2-1 Jersey with a bonus point for Whitley.
This is an especially tricky one for me... I've not been to Jersey, and until recently was an Intern for the Wild Planet Trust (at Paignton). I don't feel as though I can go in depth as I did for the Twycross/Bristol thread, but here are some points: Wild Planet Trust have the win in terms of species diversity; with the bonus of some rarer species for UK and European Zoos. This doesn't negate the fantastic species that Jersey have, and their amazing breeding success. Jersey seems to be more consistent with their exhibit quality, but WPT by no means have any awful exhibits - some of the highlights include the islands at both Newquay and Paignton. Both support great conservation work for primates: WPT's focus on the Macaques as they run the studbook, and Jersey are doing great things for Black Lion Tamarins currently. For me, its a score of 2-1 to Wild Planet Trust, with a bonus point to Jersey for the sheer amount of conservation work they have done historically, and continue to do.

Having been to both, Jersey’s outdoor exhibits quite frankly decimate Paignton’s. The only outdoor exhibit I can think of that’s better at Paignton is their lemur one, but even then their ring-tailed lemur/red ruffed lemur island is phenomenal. The gorilla indoors at Paignton is better than Jersey’s for sure, and whilst their orangutan indoors is bigger in terms of floor space I do like the height and overhead tunnels incorporated into Jersey’s. The orangutan islands at Jersey are better than Paignton’s, but the gorilla island at Paignton is roughly equal to Jersey’s I would say. Paignton’s large monkey house is admittedly better than Jersey’s Sulawesi macaque house, but again Jersey come through with a lovely outdoor exhibit with plenty of foliage. To top it off their callitrichid husbandry is insane - as can be seen by their large numbers of black lion tamarin and pied tamarin. And their Alaotran gentle lemur and aye-aye enclosures are great too. Paignton put up a good fight, hence me giving them a bonus, but Jersey for sure deserve the 2-1 here.
Jersey continues to do ground breaking work on the husbandry of those two tamarin species. Gentle Lemurs are more or less in a natural setting, and it's wonderful to see Aye-aye outside.
Paignton Diana Monkey enclosure From what I can see having never visited either collection, both are very strong in this category. They both have extremely high quality exhibits, with Jersey probably edging it with pretty much every exhibit being top class. However, Paignton etc dominate in terms of species held, with a much larger collection. This superior collection combined with the fact most exhibits are also of a high standard led me to give them a narrow 2-1 victory over Jersey. For Jersey this is a tie they really need to win as primates is one of their strongest categories by far.
Paignton wins this comfortably on species for me, though Jersey has one real rarity (black lion tamarin), Paignton has several rarities in the 2-5 holders in the UK category! Enclosure wise nothing at Paignton is so poor that Jersey should win imo. I voted 2-1 Paignton, but I think maybe 3-0 Paignton with a bonus for Jersey would be a fairer reflection!
I forgot that aye-aye and Sumatran orangutan each have more than five holders in the UK...oh wait Paignton have overall more uncommon primates as far as the UK is concerned, that much is true, but basing a score entirely on species and not at all on husbandry or conservation is a bit much isn’t it?
