Hello everybody! this is my very first post on zoo chat. I’m only 13 and I have not visited many zoos but I’ve probably visited the Bronx zoo 780 times. I live 5 minutes away and since there website can’t list every single mammals species I wanna make a species list of all the mammals species there: Note, not all the species at the Mouse house might not be listed since the species change frequently.With all That said, let’s begin: Bison range American Bison - Bronx Zoo American bison Astor court: California sea lion, white Throated capuchin monkey Madagascar! : Coquerel sifika, Madagascar lesser hedgehog tennrec will be moved to mouse house, grey mouse lemur ,ring tailed lemur ,collard lemur, crowned lemur usually not on display ,ring tailed mongoose only one displayed in North America ,foosa ,red ruffed lemur, and humans Children zoo : black tailed prairie dog ,degu ,north America river otter ,giant anteaters , white nosed coati ,common squirrel monkey ,lines two toed sloth, Patagonian cavy ,North America porcupine , striped skunk I think ,rabbit species unowned , kangaroo rat ,fennec fox so cute! ,Nubian Minnie goat Nigerian dwarf goat , boer goat , Jacob sheep, baby doll sheep , wooly sheep, and a cross between Jacobs and Baby doll sheep I think, alpaca , zebu-cattle, donkey, island hog , guinea pig don’t know witch type lacks signage in children’s zoo☹️ congo gorilla forest : red river hog , okapi, Angola’s Columbus monkey , mandrill, Debraz monkey only 1 left☹️ Gonna be sent to a different zoo probably, wolf monkey , Western lowland gorilla, secret: if you look up in the tropical bird exhibit you’ll see fruit bats, Pygmy marmosets (Temporarily), mouse house: Golden Lion tamarin , cotton top tamarin, white faced saki monkey , Bolivian grey titi monkey , Chilean Pudu , empty exhibit might have golden headed lion tamarins soon, zebra mice, African Pygmy mice , chinchilla, Eurasian harvest mouse, damarled mole rat , rock cavy , red rumpled agouti, might also share with Elephant shrew , northern tree shrew , Harris antelope squirrel, degu again, Armadillo exhibit will host lesser hedgehog tennrecks soon , cloud rats , greater gallogo , bush baby (I don’t know what type), Madagascar jumping rat, mouse unsigned , bushy tailed jird , Desert jerboa , fat tailed gerbil , Egyptian gerboa , cactus mouse , short tailed jird , cario spiny mice , Aribian spiny mice , northern deer mice , California mice , kusu rat , And House mouse, Stay tuned for part2...
Part 2 Baboon reserve : gelada , Nubian ibex, Rock hyrax. probably Best gelada exhibit in USA so then North America don’t know if any zoo in Mexico or in Canada has one. carter girrafe building: barriango girrafe (I think)and reticulated, dwarf mongoose ardvark. African plains : African wild dog , spotted hyena ,Grevy zebra , slender horned gazelle, empty over grown exhibit plans for rebuilding though don’t know what species they are planing to put maybe some type of duiker? , red flanked duiker ,Nyala African lion , Thompson gazelle , lesser kudu , bariango girrafe , reticulated girrafe . tiger mountain: peire David deer , Malayan tiger , amur tiger. big bears: grizzly bear, dhole, 3bc island bear. himilayan highlands: snow leopard,red panda. Jungle world: tree Kangaroo (don’t know what type), Asian small clawed otter , enbony langur , Pygmy slow loris, Malayan mouse deer (under construction), Malayan tapir , spotted leopard , silver leaf langur , northern tree shrew, Javan chervotain, white cheeked gibbon, and larger Malayan flying fox. wild aisa monorail : barisinga deer , black buck antelope, axis deer, reevs muntjacs , Mongolian wild horse, gaur, brown antler deer, Amur tiger , Malayan tiger, babaruisa, Indian elephants , Indian rhino , sandbar deer, formokasika deer, hog deer, Maile guide antelope, Nigel antelope ,some times Indian muntjac, markor, Himalayan tar , Chinese tufted deer , and red panda again. Well i guess that concludes my species list of the Bronx zoo. so I’m gonna post a small review Of their mammal collection. I know W.O.D and R.A.R and the monkey house closed, but I talked to a zoo keeper and they said monkey house will take a long time to get it ready for reopening but it seriously needs to be fixed up. They also said they hope to reopen world of darkness at some point when they get enough money. The closure of those exhibits was because of budget cuts. Also rare animal range might open as a South America exhibit.but their rodent,hoof stock, and primate collection are pretty good and their gorilla exhibition I think is maybe best in the world.so I give it a 3.9 stars for failing to have good cat, marsupial, civet,genet,mongoose,and weasel collections. Also it dose not do well on the jay scale. But a lot of mammals and a good collection so I think that’s it
