I hope they put the Sri Lankan junglefowl there, so I can see it for once :p

Speaking of which, do they have a clouded leopard as an education animal? We saw one in season 2, episode 2 of Animal Planet's The Zoo.

I'm hoping to finally make it to this zoo this year. The cheetah isn't listed on their species list, but is on their experiences... do they have a cheetah exhibit at all, or is the only option to pay the $60? Does anyone know how much interaction you get for that?

Yes, that is the only way to see the cheetah. There is no exhibit. I don’t know how much interaction you’d get from it (I’m rarely enticed to do interaction programs unless it involves something really cool) but when I did once do a program that (in part) had a similar cheetah experience, the closest I got was about five feet away with two keepers in between. Things could be and probably are different at Bronx, though- perhaps call and ask?

Clouded leopard or binturong - thumbs up to both / either!

Thanks. I will call, just thought I'd ask here first :) I've done several cheetah encounters and they vary wildly, and price is no indication of what you're getting. I got a painting and was able to stand a few feet from one for $30, others charge hundreds and you have to stay 20+ft away (I haven't done those ones). I've gotten to pet a couple but those were all CCF events.

Something better not be going wrong with it. I have tentative plans to visit the Bronx in around mid-April so something wrong with the zoos star attraction would be very irksome.

It will disappoint unless you visit later in the year when foliage has grown in.

I was originally going to visit in early March but then I realized that CGF was not going to be open, so I postponed it until later. While it may not be at its peak, I assume it will be open which is much better than being closed.

Unlike some of the other paid entry exhibits, CGF does not close over the winter. It was open last month, but the only viewing of anything was indoors.

It may be open during the winter, but it's also virtually empty :p

Personally I don't think CGF is Bronx's greatest exhibit. I guess it is the star exhibit, but it's certainly not my favorite, as good as it is. In fact, it might actually be my 5th favorite behind JungleWorld, Madagascar!, Wild Asia Monorail, and World of Birds.

Thanks! It’s good to know it is open in the wintertime, but I don’t think it would feel right to see it at that time of year. April isn’t perfect but better than February.

Would you mind telling me what your favourite area is? I’ve got to get all the information I can before I go.:)

Edit: just saw you post your favourite list:). Very interesting to see CGF is 5th place! Looks like I have a lot to look forward too when I visit.

I usually visit in April and have a fine time so you should be good, even if the foliage isn't at its peak.

I actually edited my post with my favorites after I posted it :p If you have any specific questions feel free to ask here or PM me and I'll do my best to help :) One tip I can give off the top of my head is that if you haven't seen White-Throated Capuchins make you to walk behind the now-closed Monkey House as they're still exhibited there.

Is anyone familiar with the zoo's indian rhino and snow leopard population? I.e names, genders?

I know penny is one of the zoo's breeding females and Sanjay I believe is the zoo's bull. Is this accurate? are there additional rhinos?

Only a few years ago Bronx had 9 rhinos total! Wonder where the others moved to.

Fun Fact: Leo is the cub which was rescued from a rockslide in Pakistan.
