Some news from my latest visit to the zoo. The Living Coast- the jamaican boas are on exhibit in the the old chinchilla exhibt. Also, the zoo has added 3 additional leopard sharks to the big tank, bringing the total to 5 leopard sharks. Habitit Africa The Forest!- The red river hogs were back in their old exhibit, also yellow backed duiker were in the old forest buffalo exhibit. Habitat Africa The Savannah!- The indoor exhibits are currently closed while a new roof is being installed. Also the african wild dog exhibit is under construction, however the african wild dogs are now on exhibit in what is normally the mexican gray wolfs off exhibit habitat. Also the zoo had it's african spurred tortosies on exhibit with the giraffes. I also had a conversation with a zookeeper by babbon island. He said the zoo has plans to begin construciton on replacing babbon island this fall. He said the zoo plans on completely demolishing the old exhibit, rasing it to eye level, and then building a completely new exhibit for hamadryas baboons. Construction is set to begin on the new exhibit replacing the old children's zoo this fall.
Thank you for the updates, wilson! With the construction of the baboon exhibit, does this mean that the Guinea Baboons will move to another zoo, since you mentioned they will be getting a different species of baboon?
Team Tapir- I've heard nothing about the bear grottos. I'll make sure to ask around though. Meilover- The zoo keeper said they only have 3 elderly baboons left (2 males, and 1 female).
When I was there the Duiker was in its usual exhibit. Did they put the other one in the old Forest Buffalo space? Do they still have 2 Yellow-Backed Duikers?
A snow leopard cub was born at the zoo on June 13th. Mother Sarani and her cub are doing well, and the zoo will make the official announcement within the next few weeks. The father, Sabu, remains on exhibit.
Royal Antelope are now on exhibit in Habitat Africa! The Forest. Sea Horses can now be found at The Living Coast exhibit. Also Australia house has reopened.
@tropicworld I'm not sure where the Royal Antelope came from, but they are in the exhibit that formely housed red duiker.
On June 21, Jasiri, a 7½-year-old giraffe at Brookfield Zoo, gave birth to a male calf. Check out this video, which includes the birth as well as the calf exploring his new home! https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jQuScDSweBs
When I was walking by the Children's Zoo I saw a sign that said Animal Encounters and had a picture of a genet on a person's shoulders. So hopefully that confirms them as a part of the new exhibit. Also a klipspringer was born on june 14th.

Brookfield Zoo no longer has plans to renovate its old pachyderm building to once again house elephants. The zoo just did not feel the plan was too feesible. They will however continue to refurbish the exterior yards and focus on Pygmy Hippos,Bairds Tapirs,Lowland Tapirs and Black Rhinos.A new location for elephants is more than likely going to be some time down the road.
