Latest updates: Daania, one of the two snow leopard "cubs", will soon be leaving for the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. The other snow leopard "cub", Malaya, underwent a successful procedure to strengthen her knee cartilage. Caracals Cesar and Dom will soon be placed together per a SSP breeding rec. Round-nosed plated lizards have been born at Brookfield Zoo for the first time. Introductions between rhinos Nakili and Layla are ongoing. Last I've heard, they've gotten along well. Adult female orangutan Sophia is pregnant and is due to give birth this winter. The Mexican grey wolf pups born last year will be moving elsewhere by the end of the year. The boys (Inigo, Nestor, and Aldo) will go to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The female (Magdalena) will move to the New York Wolf Conservation Center. This year's pups will continue to stay at Brookfield Zoo. It is hoped that their parents, Zana and Flint, will produce another litter next spring.
Man lots of news on births and breeding. Have Nakili and Layla been together on exhibit in public yet? I would love to see them together. Also did you learn anything about the Amur leopard cub born in August?
Not sure if the rhinos have been together on exhibit yet. They were introduced recently but Layla wasn't cycling. The zoo update mentioned it's possible to see them together in the former elephant yard. The Amur leopard cub was actually born in June, and is doing well. No news on when the cub will make his/her public debut, although I'm assuming it will take place sometime this month or next month. The cub has to receive all of his/her vaccines before going outside for the first time.
Latest updates: Young adult female sloth, Raisin, from Zoo Atlanta, has arrived at Brookfield Zoo. Obessa, one of the two female pygmy hippos, is currently off exhibit for medical treatment. Mona the sea lion has had her eyes removed after having serious eye problems. She should be back on exhibit soon. Next week, the yearling wolves will be moved to the holding yard, away from the pack, for preparation to be moved elsewhere. The gate to that area has been opened so that zoo visitors can see them.
Just a few random questions... What happened to the zoos Ostrich? What happened to the male gerenuk That seems to have been replaced the Kirks Dik-Dik How old is Obessa and Adele? (The pygmy hippos.)
sorry, That's my question. What I mean is what happened to the other male. We still have one who lives with the dik-dik.
The ostrich (Abby) is at OKC now, the other male Gerenuk Pepe died, Gumby is with the dik-dik (Captain), I don't know how old the pygmy hippos are
Roseate spoonbills will soon be on exhibit in The Swamp building. A new puzzle feeder has been installed in the orangutan exhibit.
So wait I'm a little confused. Where in the zoo is the old dall sheep mountain? Where ibex on it, and if so are they still there? Is it the empty exhibit in the beer garden?
I'm not sure about the Dall sheep mountain, but there was an ibex mountain. That was demolished a few years ago, after the ibex passed away.
