Yes, but she won't last long because (I don't know exactly, but) Niva is 15+ years old.

The rescued pair of European kestrel (Falco tinnunculus tinnunculus) have become parents, 5 eggs have hatched! Does someone know when the zoo rescued these kestrels?

New problem with the Biodome: either the government and Budapest Capital don't want to give more money for the project after 62 billion HUF spent. The last construction deadline was 2024, but it seems impossible now.
I looked the construction area last week. No workers, around one metre high invasive plants... It seemed totally abandoned.
I don't know what will happen now.

Based on my last visit, a male Red river hog arrived. Now Budapest Zoo holds 1.2 Red river hogs. A zookeeper said that they want to breed them.

I can only shudder and shake my head in total disbelief, The Municipality itself should take some responsibility for misappropriation of funds and now not letting a half built up space be finished and fixed (hardly surprising with the rather suspect administration that is currently in office in Budapest).

I explain the background of the project. The Biodome is a part of a state project named Liget Budapest. The goal of this project was the rebuilding of Városliget, Budapest's biggest park where the zoo located. The government wanted to build a lot of museums besides the Biodome. The former mayor of Budapest didn't support the project, so the Városliget has been grabbed with a law from the Municipal. The Biodome ISN'T A MUNICIPAL PROJECT! It's the common project of the government and the zoo.
After mayor election in 2019, the government said that the Biodome is a municipal project, so the government won't give more funding to the Biodome (but they will finish the whole Liget Project). Mayor of Budapest wanted to finish the Biodome from both municipal and government money... as he said. But based on the newest articles the municipal don't want to give more funding, too.
The Municipal has its own responsibility in this case, but the main culprit is the government, and the biggest problem is that costs have increased very much before 2019, and it continues now. The whole Liget Project's costs have increased, too, but it's almost ready.
The municipality is much more guilty of appointing a criminal as director, because the director is a friend of one of vice-mayors.

Talked with a zookeeper recently. She said that Tasmanian devils could arrive in 2022. They will be exhibited in the former Red-nosed coati enclosure behind the Australian Path exhibit, nearby South American paddock (tapir etc.)
This info is not official yet!

World-first captive breeding of the Hungarian birch mouse (Sicista trizona) happened in Budapest Zoo:):):). Five cubs were born recently, hope they will survive.

Both:) This species only lives in some wet meadows of Borsod County nearby Mezőkövesd and somewhere in Transsylvania, I don't know exactly, where. These populations are separate subspecies. The animals in Budapest Zoo are from Borsod.
