DNA reseach on a Eagle ray born at Burgers had a big suprise. The young is an exact copy of its mother and don't have a father !
thats right. Unfortunately the animal died 3 days after it was born, cause of death was an bacterial infection.
For the first time in Europe 2 second-generation Blue-spotted stingrays were born. The parents were captive born and came from Lisbon and Salzburg. The 2 young are 1 male and 1 female ( FB )

The Kea-pair at Burgers are a brother/sister pair but now an unrelated male has arrived from Warsaw Zoo ( Poland )
Lowland Gorilla, Shatilla died today following a short illness To our great regret we have today unfortunately have to say goodbye to the adult female gorilla Shatilla. She had been seriously ill for several days, but this morning her condition deteriorated drastically. Our vet has Shatilla therefore extensively studied directly, but her situation was so bad that he unfortunately in consultation with biologists and carers euthanasia has to decide. Pathologists at the University of Utrecht going to do extensive research into the causes of the disease of our gorilla.
Two couples of Gambel's Quails and Scaled Quails have arrived in Burgers Zoo. All 8 animals live free in the Desert.
Tomorow ( Feb. 11 2015 ) a Spotted eagle-ray - born at Burgers - will leave for Hagenbeck Hamburg. Burgers is spreading their captive-born rays to other collections because several females are pregnant and will bare new young soon !
Chaca chacalaca have entered the collection, the animals will be introduced in Burgers Bush, bringing the number of free flying bird species up too 35 again (after the last pink pigeon recently went away / died).

For the TV-serie "Burger's Zoo Natuurlijk" the film-crew wanted to make use of a drone to make some clips of the famous Chimp-enclosure from above. One Chimp wasn't happy with this distutbance of its privicy, took a branch and took down the drone !
