New species in the Bush Asarcornis scutulata (White-winged Duck) 1.1 are now swimming in the pond with the capybara
I hope that the other waterfowl in the Bush don’t suffer too much at the expense of these - I’ve seen them mixed with other waterfowl in only a few collection and have heard they can be really aggressive to them...
Currently only 4 Waldrapps are living together with the Cinereous Vultures. Source: De dierentuin als Ark van NoachDe dierentuin als Ark van Noach
That's true, I am only stating how many waldrapps are currently present in the zoo. I quoted your message to give an update on the number of waldrapps.
Sumatran laughingtrush (Garrulax bicolor) has been added to the collection in the Aviary in the back of the park They are held with Satyr Tragopan Source:
At the end of the recent video about new species, Burgers' Zoo showed this species of frog without even mentioning it. Anyone able to ID the species? Cause it seems like they are teasing the introduction of this species to either an ecosystem or as a standalone enclosure somewhere? EDIT: I was just not paying attention to the full video WHOOPS
They did mention it, they now keep White-lipped Tree Frog (Nyctimystes infrafrenatus) together with the pythons in the pheasantry.
They just released a new video about it Edward's pheasant (Lophorus hatinhensis) have been added as free-roamers in the bush
Burger's zoo will once again start breeding with the Sri Lankan panthers this year. The West African fiddler crabs have also successfully laid eggs, they have hatched behind the scenes
The black swans (maybe just one of them) has temporarily moved into the cinerous vulture/Bald-headed ibis aviary. Not sure why but I'll update once I have an answer Scource: (You can see them in the background throughout the video, but best at around 0:55)
I think there is a simple explanation for this. In the Netherlands, there is currently an obligation to keep them in ("ophokplicht" in Dutch) because of the avian flu.
The paths in the mangrove seem to have shifted from the usual grey to a green-ish colour. Burgers zoo has confirmed that this is not a new path. Is it because of algea? (Seen in a recent BZ Youtube video)
Could be, i can imagine they clean the path less regularly then usual now. Or maybe its just the lighting of the camera.
On Sunday, April 4, 2021, an apparently healthy white rhinoceros was born at Burgers zoo. The male is already the fourth young of the experienced mother Izala and was born at 7:44 am on Easter Monday.
Burgers' Zoo has added white-winged wood ducks to the Bush. Tomorrow a video on the species will premiere on YouTube.
